| The Snow geese are beginning to
return! We have over 4000 on the refuge today! Lots of Swans, songbirds
and other wildlife are making their way back to Summer Lake. Redwing
blackbirds too. Bird song fills the air. Come and enjoy a Summer
Lake Spring experience. Two hundred fifty species of birds are just across the road from the lodge. All this and more when you stay at the Lodge at Summer Lake. Maps and a wealth of other information can start you on your walk along the dirt lanes and dikes that wind through the marshes in the Summer Lake Wildlife Area that begins as soon as you cross the highway! The managers of the Lodge are source of boundless information on the area surrounding Summer Lake. They can offer you information which will take you along high desert trails or send you off in search of petroglyphs that few people have seen. The restaurant is open during the day, so stop in and have a cup of coffee and chat with the friendly people who can enhance your high desert adventure!
